The dam behind Morgan Falls
Morgan Falls is held back by Morgan Falls , a concrete gravity structure, resisting the reservoir by its own weight alone , standing 65 ft high and running 896 ft along its crest , built across Chattahoochee in Cobb County , near Sandy Springs . It was completed in 1903 , and is owned by Georgia Power Company (a public utility owner) , to a design credited to S. MORGAN SMITH CO., PENNSYLVANIA.
Its recorded primary purpose is hydroelectric — releases follow generation schedules, so the level can move on a daily cycle that has nothing to do with drought . It also serves hydroelectric;recreation;water supply.
It is founded on rock, with a concrete core. Its spillway is gated, so the operator can hold the pool above the spillway crest and meter what leaves. Its outlet works use slide (sluice gate)1;tainter (radial)16.
