Toledo Bd Reservoir is held back by Toledo Bend (also recorded as Toledo Bend (Res)) , an earthfill embankment, holding the pool back by sheer mass and an impervious core rather than by the strength of concrete , standing 135 ft high and running 10,350 ft along its crest , built across Sabine in Sabine County , near Burr Ferry, LA . It was completed in 1966 , and is owned by Sabine River Authority of Texas and Sabine River Authority, State of Louisiana (Authorities) (a state owner) , to a design credited to FORREST AND COTTON, INC., DALLAS, TX.
Its recorded primary purpose is hydroelectric — releases follow generation schedules, so the level can move on a daily cycle that has nothing to do with drought . It also serves hydroelectric;navigation;recreation;water supply.
It is founded on soil, with a earth core. Its spillway is gated, so the operator can hold the pool above the spillway crest and meter what leaves. Its outlet works use tainter (radial)11.
