The dam behind Monticello Reservoir

Monticello Reservoir is held back by Monticello Dam (also recorded as Monticello Steam Electric Station Dam) , an earthfill embankment, holding the pool back by sheer mass and an impervious core rather than by the strength of concrete , standing 54 ft high and running 3,200 ft along its crest , built across BLUNDELL CREEK in Titus County . It was completed in 1973 , and is owned by LUMINANT POWER COMPANY LLC (a private owner) , to a design credited to FORREST AND COTTON.

It is founded on soil, with a earth core. Its spillway is gated, so the operator can hold the pool above the spillway crest and meter what leaves. The spillway opening is 1,160 ft wide. Its outlet works use other controlled2;valve1.

Its most recent condition assessment was satisfactory — no deficiencies recognised for expected loading. That assessment is dated 06/18/2014.
