The dam behind Lenore Lake
Lenore Lake is held back by Alkali Lake , a rockfill embankment — quarried rock placed in compacted layers around a sealing core , standing 12 ft high and running 500 ft along its crest , built across Tr-Columbia Rive in Grant County , near Soap Lake . It was completed in 1950 , and is owned by WA DFW (a state owner) .
Its recorded primary purpose is recreation — holding a stable pool through the season is an operating goal, so a level well off normal in summer is unusual rather than routine .
It is founded on rock;soil, with a earth core.
NID classes it low hazard potential: a failure would be expected to damage little beyond the owner's own property. It is a consequence rating, not a condition rating.
At its normal pool the reservoir covers about 290 acres. NID records a maximum storage of 2,449 acre-ft against a normal storage of 2,000 acre-ft. Its maximum discharge capacity is 110 cubic feet per second. It is regulated by Washington Dept of Ecology.
