The dam behind Catahoula Structure Landside

Catahoula Structure Landside is held back by Catahoula Lake Control Structure , an earthfill embankment, holding the pool back by sheer mass and an impervious core rather than by the strength of concrete , standing 61 ft high and running 700 ft along its crest , built across LITTLE in LaSalle County , near JONESVILLE . It was completed in 1972 , and is owned by USACE - Vicksburg District (a federal owner) , to a design credited to CEMVK.

Its recorded primary purpose is fish and wildlife pond — it is managed for habitat rather than yield . It also serves fish and wildlife pond;recreation.

It is founded on soil, with a earth core. Its spillway is ungated: once the pool reaches the crest, water leaves on its own and the operator cannot hold it back. The spillway opening is 780 ft wide. Its outlet works use tainter (radial)0.

NID classes it low hazard potential: a failure would be expected to damage little beyond the owner's own property. It is a consequence rating, not a condition rating.

At its normal pool the reservoir covers about 25,000 acres. NID records a maximum storage of 294,000 acre-ft against a normal storage of 115,000 acre-ft. Its maximum discharge capacity is 15,000 cubic feet per second.
