Lake Marble Falls is held back by Max Starcke Dam (also recorded as Lcra Max Starcke Dam) , a concrete gravity structure, resisting the reservoir by its own weight alone , standing 99 ft high and running 896 ft along its crest , built across COLORADO RIVER in Burnet County , near AUSTIN . It was completed in 1951 and modified in 1995S , and is owned by LOWER COLORADO RIVER AUTHORITY (a local government owner) , to a design credited to FREESE AND NICHOLS;FREESE AND NICHOLS.
Its recorded primary purpose is hydroelectric — releases follow generation schedules, so the level can move on a daily cycle that has nothing to do with drought . It also serves hydroelectric;recreation;water supply.
It is founded on rock;soil, with a concrete core. Its spillway is gated, so the operator can hold the pool above the spillway crest and meter what leaves. The spillway opening is 608 ft wide. Its outlet works use other controlled1;slide (sluice gate)2.
NID classes it significant hazard potential: a failure would be expected to damage property and infrastructure rather than cost lives. It is a consequence rating, not a condition rating.
