The dam behind Lbc Dam 20
Lbc Dam 20 is held back by Lower Brushy Creek WS SCS Site 20 Dam , an earthfill embankment, holding the pool back by sheer mass and an impervious core rather than by the strength of concrete , standing 26 ft high and running 1,581 ft along its crest , built across BERRY BRANCH in Williamson County , near THORNDALE . It was completed in 1966 and modified in 2021O , and is owned by LOWER BRUSHY CREEK WCID;TAYLOR SWCD (a local government owner) , to a design credited to USDA NRCS;USDA NRCS.
Its recorded primary purpose is flood risk reduction — the pool is drawn down between storms so there is empty space waiting for the next flood, which is why this level can fall in dry weather and climb sharply after rain . It also serves flood risk reduction;fire protection, stock, or small fish pond.
It is founded on rock, with a earth core. Its spillway is ungated: once the pool reaches the crest, water leaves on its own and the operator cannot hold it back. The spillway opening is 114 ft wide. Its outlet works use slide (sluice gate)1;uncontrolled2.
