Choke Canyon Reservoir is held back by Choke Canyon Dam (also recorded as Choke Canyon Reservoir) , an earthfill embankment, holding the pool back by sheer mass and an impervious core rather than by the strength of concrete , standing 141 ft high and running 18,504 ft along its crest , built across FRIO RIVER in Live Oak County , near THREE RIVERS . It was completed in 1982 , and is owned by BUREAU OF RECLAMATION (a federal owner) , to a design credited to BUREAU OF RECLAMATION.
Its recorded primary purpose is other . It also serves other;recreation;water supply.
Its spillway is gated, so the operator can hold the pool above the spillway crest and meter what leaves. The spillway opening is 344 ft wide. Its outlet works use other controlled5;slide (sluice gate)7;tainter (radial)7.
