The dam behind Lake Corpus Christi
Lake Corpus Christi is held back by Wesley E Seale Dam , an earthfill embankment, holding the pool back by sheer mass and an impervious core rather than by the strength of concrete , standing 81 ft high and running 5,980 ft along its crest , built across NUECES RIVER in San Patricio County , near CORPUS CHRISTI . It was completed in 1958 and modified in 2001S , and is owned by CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI (a local government owner) , to a design credited to AMBURSEN ENGINEERING;FREESE AND NICHOLS INC.
Its recorded primary purpose is water supply — delivering water to its customers comes first, so drawdown here follows demand as much as it follows rainfall . It also serves water supply;recreation.
It is founded on soil, with a earth core. Its spillway is gated, so the operator can hold the pool above the spillway crest and meter what leaves. The spillway opening is 2,440 ft wide. Its outlet works use other controlled2;slide (sluice gate)3;valve1.
