Gibbons Creek Reservoir is held back by Gibbons Creek Dam , an earthfill embankment, holding the pool back by sheer mass and an impervious core rather than by the strength of concrete , standing 50 ft high and running 6,150 ft along its crest , built across GIBBONS CREEK in Grimes County , near NAVASOTA . It was completed in 1981 , and is owned by GIBBONS CREEK ENVIRONMENTAL REDEVELOPMENT GROUP LLC (a private owner) , to a design credited to FREESE AND NICHOLS.

Its recorded primary purpose is hydroelectric — releases follow generation schedules, so the level can move on a daily cycle that has nothing to do with drought . It also serves hydroelectric;recreation.

It is founded on soil, with a earth core. Its outlet works use other controlled1;slide (sluice gate)3;uncontrolled1.
